My Breastfeeding experience

breastfeedingsanny

In lieu of breastfeeding week I wanted to tell my story…. Breastfeeding for me is probably the most amazing thing I have been allowed to experience in this lifetime…. And for those of you that know me I have done a lot.

I know not all mothers get to have the chance but I believe everyone lives what they are supposed to and some things work for some and not for others, I respect that.

I had a horrible pregnancy, not only was I nauseous the whole nine months, I was also confronted with an awful scare by the American Dr’s, I won’t even go into details…. As it was terrifying. What I focus on is the outcome and I was blessed with a perfectly healthy baby and at the end of the day that is all that matters and all that every parent wishes for. That being said after what I consider a traumatic pregnancy and birthing story I have been blessed with the opportunity to breastfeed.

The first few weeks were insane, my breast had grown eight sizes and I think I probably could have fed a dozen babies…. I was engorged on numerous occasions and my highly sensitive nipples were so very raw…. But I had the voice of a friend of mine in the back of my head “hang in there, it will be worth it”…. I remember calling that friend at one point… Crying my eyes out “how long for” I said…. “It’s so hard” ….. Just a few days later all had calmed and my breasts were able to feed my little one.

I cannot begin to describe how beautiful it is to look down at your little baby as he is latched on to your nipple, solely depending on you for his nutrition. The fact that he grows from your breastmilk is such a phenomenon. I have a little “spit up” baby….. So every time he ate… It all came back up again. I was so worried he was not getting enough…. We finally found our way of doing it…. Turns out that he didn’t spit up at night, so I decided to wake up every two hours to feed him and he indeed did grow and become stronger and even cuter. He is now four months old and I still get up every three hours with him at night so he gets good feeds that stay inside him…. My friends say… My God is he not sleeping through the night…. You must be exhausted.

You know what, it’s funny that… I’m not at all… He gives me energy… I am happy, no wait, exstatic…. This is the one time in my life I get to do something so special and I’m already sad he will soon be eating solids. I realize that in the larger scheme of things a few months of dedication is so rewarding… He now looks right at me when he feeds and once in a while pops off the breast and gives me a huge smile. I will live the rest of my days remembering that smile…. Even though parents tell me every day I will forget.

I will breastfeed him only for as long as he likes, and I hear that is different in all children. I’ve spoken to other mothers and I hear of their struggles so I wanted to share atleast what worked for me and maybe it will work for another mother somewhere in the world.

I have days when I produce less milk, be it stress induced or food. For me if I drink a coconut, my milk comes right back. I have found that nuts, cashews, and almonds especially also help.

Avocadoes are a must on a daily basis and the biggest trick I believe is lots and lots of fluids…. Our bodies have fat stored from pregnacy to feed…. The way too move that fat and access it is by drinking, drinking and drinking. The reason I know this is because I must confess I never was one to drink all those glasses of water that are recommended but I have made an extra effort and it is paying off.

Lastly I want to talk about the feeling of true meaning in life… It is indescribableto be the sole source of another human beings existence…. That this being grew inside of me and has now doubled his birth weight, that he is smiling, and rolling over… That we cuddle and laugh, that we are already growing together, I am beyond grateful and happy to be a mother and I have so much too look forward to…💕

Now more than ever (on babies)

We have just become new parents, wow, what a crazy and wild experience… I will be podcasting all about this soon…. I have to admit in addition to feeling the greatest love I have ever felt for another being…. I now more than ever see the utmost importance of finding the best products for our little one. It is not easy to navigate the world of products and how organic they are but I am extremely happy with the companies we have come across and would like to share with you what we have found so far:

Helina baby carrier

This carrier is so very special and I am also so blessed to get to know Ingrid (the founder)…. Not only is the carrier completely adjustable from birth to a couple of years old…. It is completely sustainable, stylish and here the most important part: this company has done extensive research on our little munchkin’s hip development. I as a new mom had no idea how important this is and am so blessed to have found the perfect carrier from the beginning.

I truly recommend this carrier to all my mamas out there! And if you mention you found it through me you may find yourself with some extra tlc from Ingrid and Co 🙂

P. S I very specifically would like to mention…. That this carrier is also perfect for the c section mothers. Because you can tie it in ways that completely avoid that tender area which was a super plus for me!!!

Puremedy

This company is the real deal. Lives and breathes its philosophy. They have amazing products for mother and child. I’m beyond happy with their products. Especially their best selling original healing salve which can be used to pretty much heal any cut, bite or scrape. This month they are having a sale use code natural10 at checkout.

Kytebaby

I am a little bit of a softness freak and am always looking for the most comfortable fabrics… Bamboo being some of my favorite. Well here we have found the super cozy bamboo onsies that if I was a baby I would want to wear nothing else. I highly recommend this organic and comfy product!

So ladies, I am new to this and also still on the search for amazing organic, conscious products so please feel free to contact me and give me Tipps.

Hope this was a little useful to you new mothers out there and….. As for diapers…. We are still testing out brands… But for now “seventh generation” is the way to go.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

Ethical Fashionweek in Berlin

DSC_3627

It was the first Ethical fashion Show held at Funkhaus Berlin. We had to take a sneak peak at all the wonderfully innovative up and coming sustainable designers. The location was amazing. Funkhaus really emanates the true spirit of Berlin and its sustainable trends.

The first day we arrived Green Showroom we were really excited to go to Safia Minney’s book presentation “Slave to Fashion” 💕 Safia’s book reinforces the truth of what is happening in the production chain of fashion. And we highly recommend it if you are interested in learning more about the ethical fashion industry.

Safia is currently the director for Po-Zu and founder of Tree People. I was lucky enough to check out the new Star Wars collection.

Photo with Safia and Po-Zu

We decided to head to the Mercedes fashion Week on wooden bicycles by Coco-Mat.

See video on twitter

Philomena Zanetti and I have a fun story, we met because I was desperately waiting for the Postal service to deliver a dress for an event. The morning of the event nothing arrived. I was introduced to Julia and within a few hours I was all ready to go to my event. I loved wearing her on several occassions. Here I am talking to Barbara Meier who not only is a friend but is now also an Abassador for fair trade textiles in Germany. So I hope we will possibly collaborate on something fun together in the future.

We also came across two really fun companies Globe Hope and Mimmeko, Globe Hope makes bags from parachutes and other recycled materials. This bag is made from recycled sails. We so love that!

We also met Lanius I am wearing a Lanius top and Philomena Zanetti trousers in the left pic. Lanius has a reall great basic collection of responsible clothing.

I really loved the super stylish outfit I came across from Sanikai Clothing. I decided to wear it for the Ethical Fashion Show and was spotted by friends on instagram. Apparently even a few guests went down to visit the designer after the show which makes me very happy.

I am especially excited to have found an ethical jeans designer  Mud Jeans

Here I am in a comfy look by Mud Jeans and  the super cool Star Wars sneaker by Po-Zu.

Needless to stay we have found a lot of exciting brands and will be keeping our eye out for upcoming trendy sutainable fashion we can share with you.

Hope this was helpful to the sustainable shopper.

Love,

Surfer Responsibilities

You CAN make a difference…. 💕

We all love the ocean weather we surf, windsurf, kite, SUP or do any other water sports.
It would seem that all of us surfers would be aware of how our wetsuits and our boards are made. Unfortunately this is not the case. It sure isn’t sustainable nor good for our planet 😦

It is true that there are still very few options for wetsuits and surfboards that are made organically but we have the power to change that!

The way we do that is by supporting the companies that are trying to do things sustainably.

The good news is there are many great emerging companies that are ran in an ethical fashion.

I came across a wonderful store in Madrid that is doing just that.

http://www.surfnatur.com/en/

(we had a little fun with their stamp) 💕

Providing us with ecological options for the water, from Patagonia wetsuits to recycled leashes, fins and sunglasses.

I’m not going to lie…. I left with a new birthday suit…. I’ve always wanted a Patagonia wetsuit… you see some dreams do come 🙂

It has a great warranty and is made of yulex (natural rubber) but best of all this is Patagonia’s mission statement:

“Make the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.”💕

How can we not stand behind that!

Surf Natur also carries several brands of ecological surfboards. The company that caught my eye is Notox, delivering sustainable boards since 2006, handmade with greenOne technology.  We are excited to try it and will keep you posted as to how it fairs in the water 💦
A few other items that we really liked were the wooden watches and sunglasses made by Wewood.

This company has already planted 400,000 trees and plans on planting 600,000 more in the next 3 years. We love this.

And last but not least we love Surf Natur’s own 100% recycled cotton t-shirt line and their very original poncho that converts into a towel.

So what we propose next time you buy a new leash, some booties, a wetsuit, or anything you are investing in,  to go play in the water….. just see if maybe there is a more sustainable option out there and that way maybe you too can help make a difference.
I got to run….. there are waves out there….. hope to see you in the water.

Thank YOU 💕

Conscious Traveler- Destination Tarifa

The greatest thing about Tarifa is its wildnerness, it is surrounded by rolling hills and stretches of beaches beyond the eye can see. It is the idealic paradise for any wind related activity. Nature in raw form leaving you time and time again with your jaw slightly dropped as you stare out into the Mediterranean or Atlantic (depending what beach your on).

As I have lived in LA for the last two decades (very spoiled) I seem to be on the constant search for organic and sustainable products while traveling. I believe it is absolutely imperative that we all stand together with where we spend our money.

In lieu of this I have found my favorite places to shop and be fashionable in the most amazing places in the world. This story starts in tarifa….

I came across a fabulous ultra chic and sexy sustainable line. I got to wear one of her fabulous outfits for the Cannes film festival this year.

Her line is produced sustainably in Bali.

http://www.mariamalo.com

She also has an organic bamboo yoga line that I absolutely love too.

Maria lives and breathes what she and her company stand for. On instagram @mariamaloline

Another brand that I had the pleasure of coming across is @emebeme

http://www.emebeme.com/en/

They produce everything in Portugal and are also organic and consciously aware of every step of their production process.

My boyfriend and I had the opportunity to do a foto shoot with Marina, the founder and CEO of Emebeme.  Here are some of our favorites

…. you can also find us on Instagram @ecocouple

This is the store front…. I’m wearing the super cute t-shirt jumpsuit 🙂

If you drop into either of these stores while in Tarifa please say hello from me.

Happy sustainable shopping xoxo

Health Tip: Infrared Sauna lose weight doing nothing

The ultimate detoxifier- did you know that you can burn up to 700 calories just by sitting and reading a book in an infra red sauna :-)?

My family owns a health retreat in Germany- “Sanatorium Winterstein”- I’ve been doing the infra red since I was about 10- I am so glad this information is becoming common knowledge- for an explicit explanation:
